Welcome to the Haiku Contest LibGuide!


In celebration of National Poetry Month, the LSUA Bolton Library is hosting a haiku contest.

  • The contest will begin April 1 to April 22
  • All LSUA students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate
  • Submissions must be submitted via Microsoft Forms at this link.
  • In the email, provide your name and haiku as an attachment or in the email body
  • Haiku submissions can be about any topic or subject, but must be original and follow the 5+7+5 rule

What is a haiku?

  • A traditional Japanese poem comprised of 3 lines with 17 syllables
  • It follows the 5+7+5 rule

                An old silent pond...                 5

                A frog jumps into the pond,      7

                splash! Silence again.             5

Haiku Contest Rules

1. Participants must be current LSUA student, faculty, or staff

2. Entries must be submitted by the deadline

3. Entries will be judged by a blind review panel composed of LSUA faculty and staff

4. Haikus that are not original or do not follow the 5+7+5 format will be disqualified 

5. More than one entry is allowed as long as it follows the rules
